Steve Rotheram Visits The Gateway During National Apprenticeship Week
On Thursday 13th February, we celebrated National Apprenticeship Week in collaboration with Legacie Developments.
Meeting at the site of one of our Liverpool projects, The Gateway, we welcomed the Mayor of the Liverpool City Region, Steve Rotheram, along with the amazing apprentices that work for ourselves and Legacie.

How Are Apprenticeships Changing in the UK?
National Apprenticeship Week 2025 brought significant changes to the apprenticeship landscape. Key updates center around flexibility, less bureaucracy, and a focus on economic growth.
Some ways apprenticeships are changing for the better are by offering more flexibility for employers to decide whether they want adult apprentices to complete a level 2 English and Maths qualification, more ease and flexibility with payments, and a change in the way that apprentices will be assessed.
The minimum duration of apprenticeships will also be reduced to 8 months starting in August 2025, previously 12 months.
New leadership has been appointed for Skills England, a body that helps address skills gaps and provides strategic direction for the UK’s workforce. These new reforms are expected to enable up to 10,000 additional apprentices to qualify for an apprenticeship each year, with a specific aim at supporting high-demand sectors such as construction, healthcare, and social care.
It was great to hear the apprentices at Legacie and RWinvest share their experiences with Steve Rotheram, take a tour of the Gateway and SoapWorks sites, and tell Rotheram about the work we do with the Bright Futures apprenticeship scheme.
The Bright Futures Apprenticeship Scheme
Every year, Legacie Developments welcomes apprentices from Merseyside into their award-winning Apprenticeship scheme – Bright Futures. These full-time, paid apprenticeships provide young people with hands-on onsite experience, invaluable mentorship from experienced staff, and a degree-level qualification from Liverpool John Moores University.
Currently, seven trainees/apprentices are employed collectively between Legacie and RWinvest as part of the Bright Futures Scheme, with The Gateway Liverpool having created employment for three apprentices and two trainees.
The Economic Impact of Liverpool Developments
As one of the city’s most exciting new developments, it’s fitting that the Gateway Liverpool is contributing to the economy not only through investment and regeneration, but also by strengthening the North West’s employment market. The Gateway is based in Liverpool’s Pumpfields regeneration zone, and is set to become the largest residential development to enter the Liverpool market.
All in all, The Gateway has brought £200m inward investment into Liverpool, creating 500+ jobs onsite through our local supply chain, and supporting the next generation of talent. This transformative project will create a vibrant neighborhood while supporting the local economy through new housing, job creation, and green public spaces
However, this commitment to Liverpool’s growth extends beyond the Gateway, with inward investment across all Legacie developments totalling £660 million across the UK.
Earlier this month we also welcomed Steve Rotheram and Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Darren Jones, to our Parliament Square development. During this visit we were able to showcase the positive impact that this £100m development has had towards the Liverpool economy, and solidify Legacie’s commitment to building a better future for our city.
