Data sourced from the Rightmove Keyword Sort tool has revealed that Victorian homes are the most popular style of period property among people searching for new properties.

Rightmove states that these buildings are characterised by historic charm, solid construction, and spacious interiors.

The second most searched-for period was Georgian, and the third was Edwardian. Tudor-era homes placed fourth, and the fifth most popular keyword was Regency.

Rightmove’s Tim Bannister commented: “Home hunters continue to be captivated by the character and charm of properties that we see in period dramas. Victorian homes remain particularly popular, characterised by their historic charm, solid construction, and spacious interiors. You’ll often find Victorian houses in some of the most desirable locations, which include convenient access to schools and transport links.”

      Liverpool Waterfront Warehouse Renovations

The popularity of period properties isn’t just restricted to houses; historic buildings transformed into apartment complexes are also sought-after for their unique character and cultural value.

Looking at the North West area, an example of a Victorian building being reborn into a residential property is Heap’s Mill in Liverpool. This Grade II listed warehouse is located near the city’s famous waterfront, and the property developer is sensitively maintaining and restoring as much of the original architecture and interior as possible through renovation works.

As mentioned by Rightmove, period dramas and films have helped boost the popularity of older buildings that boast the same characteristics as seen on screen. Heap’s Mill’s red brick warehouse exterior is reminiscent of iconic Liverpool filming locations, such as the industrial and dockland settings featured in productions such as Peaky Blinders, Sherlock Holmes and Captain America.
