As 2022 came to a close, one of the most exciting locations for property investors in the UK had yet more good news, putting it in an excellent place for the new year.
In their latest City Livability Index, Liverpool has been voted the best place to live and work in the UK by the financial services provider OneFamily.
This saw Liverpool rise up the Index from 2021, where it came in 4th place, to the top of the Index, a reflection of the high level of satisfaction Liverpudlians have with their city and the thriving prospects 2023 brings.
Liverpool ranked highly across the board for key factors such as a manageable cost of living, the pace of life, the happiness of citizens and pride in the city.
In this blog post, we’ll break down why Liverpool is such a popular place to live and work in 2023, and why the future is bright for this North-West city.
Residents’ High Levels of Happiness and Pride
The vast majority of those who live in Liverpool are happy with their life in the city for multiple reasons.
75% of residents are happy with their life in the city, thanks to the wide array of jobs available and the vibrant cultural opportunities.
Numerous major employers have offices or locations within the city, such as McDonalds, Amazon, Tesco and the BBC, as well as banks like Santander. Combine this with the multiple respected universities in Liverpool, and there is a large population of young professionals and students within the city.
Areas such as the Baltic Triangle and LiverpoolONE mean residents have a wide array of eateries, shops, and activities to entertain themselves with, while the city is renowned for its vibrant nightlife scene.
Property in Liverpool is also highly affordable, with the UK House Price Index revealing that the average house price in Liverpool as of October 2022 is £180,049. This is over £100,000 more than the national average of £296,422.
This means Liverpool residents are less affected by the cost of living crisis due to the wide array of affordable housing.
On top of this, the research conducted by OneFamily shows that Liverpudlians are most likely to be positive and proud of their hometown due to this wide range of economic and social factors.
Liverpool Will Thrive in 2023
Thanks to the favourable economic conditions as well as a variety of other factors, Liverpool enters the new year in a fantastic position.
Having been announced as the host of Eurovision 2023, millions are set to be pumped into the city’s economy thanks to the high amount of tourism that the competition will bring to Liverpool, as well as the cause for celebration that such a prestigious event is coming to the city.
The various universities in the city will draw a wide range of students to Liverpool, helping to bolster Liverpool’s economy with an influx of newcomers.
With areas of regeneration like the Baltic Triangle, one of the coolest places to live in the UK, seeing further expansion such as the establishment of BOXPARK Liverpool, the first such location outside of London, there will be lots more to see and do in the city in the new year.
In addition, the popularity of local sports teams such as Liverpool FC and Everton FC will continue to draw in crowds to the city throughout 2023. Everton’s new stadium, located right on the waterfront, creeps ever closer towards completion, a massive project which has brought millions to the city and created hundreds of jobs.
With all this in mind, it is clear to see that Liverpool is off to a great start in 2023, and is likely to continue to stand head and shoulders over other cities in the UK as the year progresses.
